Planning a wedding during a pandemic.

I have been itching to share the fabulous wedding of our gorgeous bride Tash and her new husband James. Here it is in the form of a Q&A session with the bride herself. I do hope you enjoy it and can pull some inspiration for your special day.

Who is your other half? How did you meet? Was it a romantic proposal?

His name is James- We first met at Henley Regatta 9 years ago, it was through mutual friends that we came to get to know each other, and from that day I was determined I was going to be with him haha! In October 2019, James surprised me on our Anniversary with a trip to Dubai which was for 2 weeks later, I had no idea! Evening 2 in Dubai, James set up the self timer to take a 'picture' but was instead recording a video as he went down on 1 knee and proposed to me on the balcony of our room looking over the Palm. It was incredible. All our family knew so had a secret whatsapp group chatting and counting down the hours until the time James had said he was going to propose- they were all so excited!

What made you choose your wedding venue? And what was the feel for the day?

I originally loved the idea of a stretch tent and had visions of the long tables, with lots of flowers and a casual vibe. We visited one and I just didnt feel won over with it and realised a 'DIY' wedding was not at all me, and went back to the drawing board on visions. Once I wrote down what it was I was after I realised it was light, open space, a venue with lots of land to spruce up but a venue which was already Clean, Crisp and beautiful before anything had been done to it. Northbrook Park was our first Venue visit after looking at the stretch Tent land, and we both fell absolutely head over heels. We secured the date there and then, as well as cancelling the appointments at the other venues (not saying this is right but I just knew!) It was so light, so beautiful, it felt super English Countryside, and I adored the fact our whole day would take place at the Venue and we did not need to move about. It was perfect every single time we visited it again- and of course even more perfect on our Wedding Day.

How did you find your various suppliers? (Who were they - so we can tag/credit them) And what made you go with them? Did any of them exceed your expectations?

We used a lot of the recommended suppliers as we felt they knew the venue and worked well with the Events team there, so we trusted communication would be good and we wouldn't have to give too much direction- we used Fiona Curry Flowers, Farnham Sound & Light for all lighting entertainment etc, White Truffle for Catering/ Event Management. But we also used Lydia Stamps photographer, who did my Brothers Wedding, I was adamant I was having her for my own wedding when I saw my Brothers pictures- she is INSANE! Our flowers blew most people away, Fiona is so talented and completely got my vision from the word go- she used photos to help me express what I wanted and this really helped, as I do not know flower names haha, she made it so easy and again I trusted her from the word go.

What 3 tips would you give to other brides planning their day?

  • Be organised- I cannot recommend enough getting things planned in advance, I really realised (and I would say I am quite organised) how far in advance things are booked, so if you want a particular supplier do not hang around- BOOK!

  • Good communication- you are in the driving seat, make sure your suppliers know exactly what you want, they are going by your instructions so clear direction before the day (bullet point sheets for them to work from- for timings etc- will mean you do not need to get involved on the day.

  • Have fun- it seems so stressful at times, but it all goes so quick- take it all in, go to all the wedding events, have fun with your bridesmaids!!

What was your favorite part of the planning process? (And which was your least?)

Favorite part I would probably say (and Emma did not tell me to say this!!) would be finding my dress or hair/ make up trial. These things felt super 'bridal' and so special! Least would be albeit general, but keeping tabs on all suppliers, invoices etc through a pandemic, so much uncertainty!

What was your most memorable moment of the day?

Our day really was a dream- from the moment I woke up, to the moment our heads hit the pillow, I did not stop smiling. I think the first time I saw the venue dressed in flowers etc, and all our guests together was a moment which was super emotional as there was so many times (even 2 weeks before) that we did not think the day would happen. It was super surreal.

What did you enjoy the most about your Boo Adventure?

Emma made my whole Boo Adventure, SO fabulous. I felt so comfortable with her when trying on the dresses (and being starkers!!) and I had so much trust in Emma throughout the whole process. It is super special finding THE dress, and when you do find it, it really makes a dream become a reality. I absolutely loved how Emma had listened to what I like, what I didn't like before attending my appointment, so I wasn't looking through rails and rails of dresses, as I know I would have felt so overwhelmed. Emma kept the amount I tried to 8 I think (?) and this allowed me to try different dresses of different styles but also not wasting time on dresses I knew I wouldn't like- it was SUCH a good process to use. The fact that I knew when I was emailing or calling I would speak to Emma and not a shop attendant who didn't know who I was, ever seen me before etc, it felt so personal.

How did it feel to plan a wedding during a global pandemic?

It was incredibly tough at times, but we were so lucky to not have to move our date at all. The uncertainty is very difficult, and although no one likes to talk about money, it is super difficult booking things for the day and paying invoices when we didn't know if it was even going to go ahead. But the fact now we stayed strong and we DID IT (!) we both feel super super lucky & proud, and also so pleased we were brave and kept with our date- even if at times we thought to postpone. In years to come we will be able to say we got married in a global pandemic... quite cool eh??!

Who was your most Most Valuable Person on the day?

My Bride Tribe were amazing- from the moment I got up, they were there! Sorting the train of my dress, keeping me laughing throughout the morning, my Maid of Honor sorting my lost bridesmaid bouquet which was somewhere in the venue (!) and just being their fabulous selves. I do genuinely mean it when I say that everyone was super valuable to our day- considering we thought a micro wedding was on the cards, we cannot express how lucky we felt to be surrounded by nearly all of our original guests on our special day- and we told them this was going to be a party... and boy did our guests do that!!
