Our Covid wedding

Our beautiful bride Jo, shares with us her perfect intimate wedding day. Join with us in wishing her, Si, and their perfect family every happiness for the future x

“Si and I met back in 2007 through friends and were part of the same circle for years, but it was 2014 before we decided to give things a go as a couple.

We enjoyed some amazing experiences, fun and laughter together before starting our family in 2017.

It was autumn 2019 when Si proposed. we were on a celebratory trip to New York and Boston with his family when we took a few moments in Central Park  to retrace our steps from Valentine’s Day 2015 with our children. Si and our daughter got down on one knee in front of Gapstow bridge and asked the question (very romantic, shortly followed by children requesting snacks and drinks)”

“We always wanted a simple, informal and low key wedding that would suit our young family, so set the date at a local registry office and Meade Hall, a beautiful function hall attached to a pub that we’d spent many evenings at when first starting together.

We’d barely started when covid threw things into chaos, which on one hand meant that we had little to change and reschedule through 2 postponements, but on the other, put us on the back foot when our venue contacted us to finalise plans 8 weeks before the big day.

I knew I didn’t want the traditional long white wedding dress and initially looked on the high street, but nothing was quite special enough. I’d seen many shorter length gowns in the window at BOO, so immediately started there and within minutes of walking through the door, Emma had introduced me to Marilyn. It was absolutely the look and feel that I wanted, so went back shortly after with my bestie and when I put her on again; it was a done deal.”

”Emma was so patient and supportive; she listened and understood what was in my head but also gave me encouragement and perspective.  Emma recommended Catherine at A Finishing Touch, and again, the decision was instant.”

”Though we had our disruption in some ways, covid actually unlocked the easy and informal wedding that we’d dreamed of and allowed our daughter to be of an age that she would actually remember it!

After 18 months dipping in and out of lockdown and being separated from family and friends, the low key and unstructured event that we enjoyed was perfect - there may not have been a DJ and dancing, but we had amazing food, drinks flowing and plenty of lively chats and laughter. It was like a lock in at the bar with our nearest and dearest and we were blessed with sunshine - couldn’t have hoped for more! “

”The most amazing moment of our day was leaving the registry office with my husband and children - family in name as well as blood.”

”My top tips for any bride - it’s your day, so do what makes you and your groom happy. For us, the simplicity of our day made it so easy and stress free.  So long as the guests have a drink in hand, they’ll be quite happy enough.

I’m so grateful to all of our suppliers and our friends and family for making it such an unforgettable day!”
